Éric Pougeau

« I use the family as the means and as the place to criticize systems which are bigger than the family frame: authority, power, manipulation, invasion, ownership, guilt, confinement, and others. Systems of all kinds infuriate and suffocate me. I think that there is in the family, in the sphere of intimacy, stakes in power and in interest which we can find in the public, social life. I imagine a pyramid of authority , the base of which would be the family which already contains all the possibilities of physical and psychological destruction, terrorism and abandonment on the individual. »

Extracts from the interview of curators Maud Benayoun and Agnès Vannouvong with Eric Pougeau regarding "L'Infamille", the group show presented at Frac Lorraine in 2008.
